You need to provide more information if you want help.

'no joy' -- meaning it didn't give you what you wanted?

print $node->id
will print the node Id, although internal nodes won't have labels 
unless you had provided them.
print $node->internal_id
will print the unique internal ID assigned by Bioperl.
