Well, that's exactly not what you should be using it for.

Use to test / trial your stuff if you're not sure it may just mess up  
things and if it does you're not ready to clean up throughout the  
toolkit but you might as well decide to discard the entire idea -  
which would then amount to no more than discontinuing the branch.

Yeah, after a while once you've convinced yourself your  
'experimental' changes work, you should port them over to the main  
trunk and then the experimental one should go into oblivion.

Otherwise you create a maintenance nightmare.
