GC content

The Guanine and Cytosine content of a DNA sequence. This statistic is important because genes in some organisms tend to be in more GC rich regions of the genome so often plots of GC content are helpful in assessing the gene potential of a region. The dna glyph in Bio::Graphics called Bio::Graphics::glyph::dna will plot GC content in a Gbrowse browser.

GC content is also important in Phylogenetic analyses where different background frequencies of nucleotides in sequences can make phylogenetic reconstruction difficult.
